In the past, I’ve tried to stop shooting portrait sessions other than engagements, bridals, and couples. It didn’t work out. I’m blessed to have so many great loyal clients asking for family/maternity/newborn/etc sessions that it just wasn’t acceptable to ever stop! In order to separate these sessions from our wedding side of business, I have started up a new division, with a FB page and blog! Introducing Sugar.

December 30, 2011. What a beautiful day for a wedding it was! We could not have asked for nicer weather in the end of December! It was a bit windy up on that hilltop at the Bountiful LDS Temple, but everyone made it through without blowing away! Catherine and Dalton looked so happy and they were a great couple to work with! Here are some highlights from their day. Enjoy!

Yes, I’m still here! We have just been so busy with fall family sessions and taking care of our own little family, that I haven’t had a moment to blog any of the awesome sessions we have taken! Here are two of my favorites from a recent engagement session. LOVE this couple. Check back later for more!!
This session was a lot of fun! Greg and Stephanie are fantastic to photograph, they are always willing to try my ideas and are great fun to be around. I had such a hard time getting to the session, I had a small kidney stone on it’s way out of my body and then I blew a tire in bountiful on my way to the session!! Dave usually comes with me but he had just started a new job and had to work that night. It was just one of those days where you feel like you probably should have just stayed in bed! It turned out to be a great evening after all though, we got some beautiful images out of it and had a lot of fun. Thank you guys for being so patient with me and being so flexible!!! Wedding photos to come!
Kaylynn is our neice on Dave’s side of the family. About 2 years ago (before there was ever even a hint of Kaylynn EVER getting married LOL) she asked me to be her wedding photographer and I was like “Yeah, sure..IF and WHEN that ever happens I will be there.” Well, it happened!! We absolutely LOVE Eric and are so glad he and Kaylynn found each other. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do their engagement photos or bridals, but I was so glad I could at least capture the wedding day:) Dave was technically there, but he was pretty busy with our THREE kids. (still sounds weird to say!) I will admit I didn’t take half as many photos as I usually do at a wedding because I was constantly trying to track down our boys (ages 4 and 6) and keep them out of trouble. Let’s just say that next time there is a wedding in the family, I will happily refer a photographer friend, and then sit back and enjoy the day(aka, chase my kids around WITHOUT a heavy camera around my neck!) Just looking back through some old sessions today from my first year in business…
and I stumbled upon this engagement session. These two were the start of it all for me, really. They found me on KSL.com, an online classifieds ad site here in Utah, they liked the work I had done so far, and hired me for engagements. I remember this as the day I got my second DSLR, a little Canon Rebel, rockin’ a little 50mm 1.8 portrait lens. I was so nervous and so excited to use my new camera for the session and when Jordan and Luke got out of the car, I just couldn’t believe how beautiful they were! The big dork that I am, I am pretty sure I exclaimed their beauty to them several times throughout the session. I asked them about the wedding, of course wanting to get in on that too, and they told me it was in Fresno California. I pretty much begged them to let me be their photog for the big day and they said they would let me know after they saw the engagements. I was pretty excited when they hired me for the wedding. I had never been to California so it was an adventure for me to say the least. I will be blogging about that in a later post, but for now, here are some fun re-edits of Jordan and Luke: The engagements. Enjoy!
I just love these two! Stephanie happens to be a good friend from my early childhood, and how exciting it was to reconnect and do this session. I am so blessed to have been reconnected with so many wonderful friends through photography. What a great blessing it is to have Stephanie and Greg as clients. Thank you both for letting us be witness to this magical time at the beginning of your journey. I cannot wait until September!!
This is my second birth story. It was so great getting to spend a good part of the day with Michelle and Chris, and to witness such an event in their family. Dave had met them at a Lowe’s workshop for kids and noticed that Michelle was pregnant. He told them all about birth stories and told Michelle to look up our blog. She told Dave that she didn’t think she would like something like that because she is somewhat of a private person. So for her to call me that afternoon and..very excitedly, might I add.. invite me to capture these moments, was, beyond flattering for me. So, Michelle and Chris, thank you for this experience and honor.
*NOTE: There is an image or two in here that are a bit PG13 due to graphic nature. I try to be very tasteful in the way that I photograph a birth, but sometimes there is no avoiding blood.
